Let's start off with an American sociologist, Charles Cooley, he famously said "I am not what I think I am, I am not what you think I am, I am what I think you think I am".
So basically the people around us, the people in various parts of the world are basically living in a perception of perception of ourselves. This might be a bit tricky, but give yourself some time to get that sentence broken down in your head. So where were we? Yep. We live in a perception of perception of ourselves. So what's basically happening is that our thoughts, our expectations, our actions are all overwhelmed by the perception of what others think about us. So what we exactly start to do is that we start trying to put ourselves into the boxes in which people find us to be. But simultaneously we are limiting ourselves to be the real us. Busy filling people's expectations we miss out on observing our purpose of life, we miss out on observing ourselves, and literally forget what we are doing for ourselves.
Be wise.
